A kaolin in a sanitaryware body acts as a filtration aid and therefore the permeability of a kaolin is important to help the dewatering process, the formation of the cast wall thickness and firming up the pieces before demoulding the pieces. SOKA kaolins are world renowned for their casting properties.
Deflocculant is an essential component which alters the surface chemistry of the materials to help increase the solids concentration, however, too much deflocculant demand and losses can increase as well as reducing gypsum mould life. The kaolins from SOKA have some of the lowest deflocculant demands amongst sanitaryware kaolins.
Kaolin also provides a source of alumina which combined with the silica in the body components form mullite which gives fired strength to the pieces.
Low fluorine in a kaolin, helps to protect the environment. The SOKA kaolins are known to contain some of the lowest levels of fluorine among sanitaryware kaolins.
